A friend asked me, “Do you know how to make God laugh?
“No,” I responded, “tell me!”
“Just tell him your plans for your life,” he said.
Are you are like me, surprised or even shocked how your life has turned out?
I am still shocked. Who would ever expect their father would be killed in an auto accident when they were on their honeymoon, or that their mother and sister would be murdered, or that her brother in law would be shoot in the head twice, set on fire and left for dead and that their nieces would be kidnapped to be sold for satanic worship rituals? Nor did I ever think divorce would attack what my friend called my “All-American family” of eight children, and tear it apart, nor did I think I would ever have cancer or loose my life-savings in a Ponzi scheme…but it did happen—all of it.
Not only was I shocked because it happened; I was doubly shocked because I had been taught that if you live right, everything would turn out right. While I wasn’t perfect, I did try – living a conservative Christian life devoted to my husband, children, church and community. When my life fell apart, I ha a choice. I could remain a victim and fold, or struggle to become victorious over it. Choosing the later I began a 20-year Siddhartha journey, which took me from the jungles of Peru to the Hindu Ashrams: from studying about Satanism to living the life of a mystic: from studying Jungian Psychology to studying Quantum Physics. I was looking for new ways to think, for I knew our thoughts created our feelings, our feeling created our actions and our actions created our results. Everything began with our thoughts. Finally… I did figure it out. After some revelatory dreams and spiritual experiences, I knew I had to share what I had learned to help a world whose people are experiencing unprecedented stress and adversity. I could help them through it, making it faster, easier and less painful. To write about my life was a difficult decision. It would require sharing my story, which would require reliving the pain. But I was willing, if it would help others get through theirs faster and easier. As I wrote, the books helped heal me more deeply; it is my deepest desire that they will do the same for you.
We each come here for a special purpose and life provides the “boot camp”, tough experiences, to prepare us for that purpose, or mission. While I doubt God is laughing at how our lives turned out, I truly believe he is smiling when we take our adversities, overcome them, and do the work we came to the planet to do… whether it be to influence and help the one, or the many, with our unique talents and abilities. When we make that choice, to overcome our adversities, to discover and fulfill our purpose, it is also the choice that connects us to our peace, power, abundance and happiness.
