I am a lifelong learner, writer, and teacher about living a spiritual life in a practical world. Living spiritually requires having faith in the divine spirit that lives within your mind (a fragment of the Father in heaven) and consecrating yourself to follow his guidance.
A practical rule for spiritual living is to see everything from the highest (cosmic) perspective—or in religious terms, how God sees it. In making moral and ethical decisions I use three criteria:
• Does the decision bring about the highest good to the greatest number of people?
• Is it a beautiful thing I'm doing? Can I say when I look back, that was a beautiful thing I was inspired to do?
• Does it reflect the highest truth I can perceive? Following wherever truth leads is crucial to this practice.
MY HISTORY
I now know that the purpose for my life is to find God, share my inner life with him in every detail, and walk together through this life and on into eternity. But how miserable I was before I even knew he existed. As a young person I looked around at the world and its problems and despaired to find meaning for my life. The goal of material affluence was put before me by my mother and culture while my soul starved.
There were three great events that marked my spiritual journey from darkness to light, from barrenness to fulfillment.
In my desperate quest to find reality, a fascinating and otherworldly series of events led me to a remarkable man who introduced me to the Bible. He made God come alive. I discovered that he is my heavenly Father and I am his son; he loves me, watches over me, and guides my footsteps. For 25 years I remained in this Christian fellowship and grew as much as I could, but there was a plateau beyond which I could not climb in my relationship with Father.
It was then that the second event of destiny occurred: the introduction of the Urantia Book. I had never encountered a compilation of writings that so illuminated my understanding. The Urantia Book brought everything together and mysteries were made plain. I was delighted with the enlightenment but more important was the growth I felt in my soul that manifested in my character. I was becoming a more loving and unified person, thereby able to truly love others and do good. What a thrill!
The third milestone: I strove to take my relationship with God to a higher level: hearing his “still-small-voice.” I wanted to talk things over with him; after all he is my counselor and friend. He continually speaks to our minds and is delighted when we learn how to hear and respond. I learned to quiet my mind - enter into stillness - and commune with the indwelling Spirit of the Heavenly Father.
My Life Now: After careers in the real estate and software industries I now devote my time to sharing, writing, teaching, studying, and going about doing good—loving service.
