Ann de Ruig

I am a technogically challenged geriatric, living on a mountain in north-eastern South Africa. In another life I was a secretary, bookkeeper, salesperson, children's librarian, personnel manager and clothing store manager, before moving to the farm and becoming a kennel maid.

Colin and I were married when we were both under 20 and have since moved about Southern Africa and produced five children who have done their bit in increasing the number of de Ruigs in the world.

We have had an exciting life and I am now attempting to put it down on paper so the wide-spread family will know who their ancestors were. I know little about mine as it never occurred to me to ask about them until it was too late.

We have ridden bicycles and motorbikes as well as horses. The men had go-karts and we have sailed small craft, done some scuba diving, climbed mountains, gone hiking and camping. I've Grown Accustomed to His Butt is the record of our three charity tandem bicycle rides around South Africa. Tails from the Kennels relates our experiences during 30 years of operating boarding kennels in Tzaneen.
