Lorna A Fraser

I like to write motivational and inspirational books. My sources of inspiration developed from the English language and literature, history and psychology that were my favorite subjects in school and later, at the University of the West Indies, Mona. Anyone who loves the islands of the Caribbean, in particular, or the tropics in general, can enjoy the underlying themes of my books. These include: historical roots, spiritual and psychological leanings: self-help and development; and the nurturing aspects of nature.

My books are inspired partly by inspirational and motivational stories that my parents used to tell when I was a child. 'Letty's Pool' and 'Return to Naseberry Hill' are stories of adventure and romance. They are motivational and inspirational too, as they portray the characteristics of the hardy maroons, of life in the hills in the interior, and of the spiritual battles between native religions and Christianity. Parental guidance might be needed.

Motivational and inspirational themes in my writing also developed out of the English literature that I taught for many years, i was as enthused by the literature I read as a child as by the literature I taught to my GCE and CXC students. 'Lorna Doone' was as much my inspiration for writing for young adults as 'Wide Sargasso Sea' and 'Beka Lamb'.

I've written books for younger readers too. 'Dee plays in the Moonlight' and 'The Bitter wood Trees' create a picture of carefree childhood which draws on the way of life in old-time Jamaica. However, the spiritual and motivational themes of these children's stories can be enjoyed by readers from anywhere.

I am also the author of English language and literature texts and reviews, plus, self-empowerment topics with prompts and pages topics for readers of all ages. Some titles are 'Follow-Your-Dreams-101' and 'My Big D.AR.E. Plan' (2020–21).
