Hello, I'm Phyllis. How do you do?

How are you? Yes, I'm talking to you. How do you feel in these rather soul-destroyingly sad days? I, and I'm sure YOU, are waiting for some good news about the demise of COVID 19: it can't come soon enough can it? We are all hoping and praying that a vaccine can be found so that we can be rid of this... this pestilence!

Are you sitting at home and trying to find something to do? If you are, then sit down at any time of the day and read a book: not just any book, but a book about LOVE, because the whole world badly NEEDS LOVE at the moment. If you are alone in your house, your flat, your apartment, or wherever, and you feel that you can't take much more... READ A BOOK!

To help you, I want to introduce you to my latest book... THE POWER OF LOVE , which has a sub-title of IF WISHES COULD ONLY COME TRUE, and it was published by Bridge House Publishing in both print and kindle editions at the end of December 2019. It contains short-stories, all about LOVE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phyllis knows all about love...

"If you're looking for short stories to read, then look no further. These are great reads from Phyllis. The stories are tender, loving and well-written. From a little boy's wish to have his parents re-unite, to a troublesome brother banning his sister her true love, to an upset at a funeral, Phyllis captures all forms of love in up-to-date situations. I'd recommend these stories to everyone."

This charming book contains 18 stories about LOVE of course. Love makes the world go round, or so we are led to believe, so without devotion of some kind, it would be a sorrowful place. But how would you define the word LOVE? Is it even possible? Cupid fired his arrows, and Ben Johnson wrote about love as being "...a spiritual coupling of two souls". Many writers throughout history have spent their lives trying to find its true meaning. Our very existence is governed by love, so long may it last...

I find writing to be a truly enervating experience, and I love putting down my thoughts and of course those of my characters, on to paper. I also have an insatiable appetite for reading, and tend to panic if I can't find a new book to read. I live among the beautiful Surrey Hills in southern England, and the view from our house has a wonderful WOW factor which gives me the inspiration to write.

I have written three full-length novels, all of which have been written in the ROMANTIC THRILLER genre, so you see TRUE LOVE DOES MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND. They were published by Matador (an Imprint of Troubador Publishing Ltd. of Leicester, England.:-

A PASSING STORM, PAPER DREAMS, and WHEN THE ICE MELTS, details of which can be found on my book page here on Amazon. I write quite a few short stories too, one of which was broadcast on a Hampshire radio station. I also enjoy writing poetry and one-act plays. I produced and directed two of them for a local drama company.

WHEN THE ICE MELTS: (Genre…Romantic Thriller), among this book's 5* reviews is this one: short but very sweet:

"When the Ice Melts" is one of those books which deserves the stealing of time to read far into the night... I loved it!"

And another 5* review... which is even sweeter but brief:

"Mesmerizing"

Why is Sarah Wenham preparing to end her husband Tom's life?

"Sarah Wenham has to make the most important and worrying decision of her life. Her husband Tom has been in a coma for many months, following an air accident. She is persuaded to turn off the machine keeping him alive. After Tom’s death, and feeling numb inside, Sarah builds a wall of ice around her emotions. How, when and why the ice melts is the nub of this exciting and sometimes heart-breaking story. But it does have a happy ending."

Ahhhh...

A PASSING STORM: (Genre…Romantic Thriller): This is not just a book about a real storm, but about a storm between two people...

“Jennifer Redmond, a married, but disillusioned housewife, runs away to Scotland, where she meets Angus Cameron. Whilst walking alone in the Highlands, she falls during a severe mountain storm and is seriously injured. Her ambitious insincere husband, Peter, finds out where she is, and persuades her to return home once she leaves hospital.

Does she stay with Peter in a loveless marriage, or does she return to Scotland and find true love with Angus? This is an eternal triangle with many twists and turns. Also, how does a thin and straggly dingo dog in the outback of Australia, finally influence what eventually happens? Can you believe this? ...Such a clever dog! How does he do it?

Here is part of a review A PASSING STORM RECEIVED:

"Jennifer left Peter and found herself in a lovely mountain village in Scotland. Invergrosgie was a holiday destination that the whole family enjoyed and it seemed the perfect place to try and sort out her future. Little did she know that both love and near disaster would find her there."

PAPER DREAMS: (Genre… Romantic Thriller).

Do you DREAM in colour? Are all your dreams as flimsy as paper? Do you dream wonderful dreams...or nightmares, and what is more, can you remember them and… then run away?

PAPER DREAMS is a unique reading experience, which plays with the reader's emotions. It takes place in an old, large crumbling mansion... enough to give you nightmares in the first place. It covers several diverse subjects: books, letters, family sorrow, obsessions, inheritance, greed, dreams, nightmares, and attempted murder. But above all, it is a story of people's lives, their loves and how they eventually overcome adversity. Find out what happens in the attic...!

PAPER DREAMS: Part of one of several 5* reviews:

"Buy this book if you want a happy, romantic and thrilling read which will hook you from the first few pages!"

And here is another 5* review:

"Love Phyllis J Burton’s voice. Gentle, persuasive, almost hypnotic her cadence and tone is pleasing and very convincing. I will definitely read other books by this author."

And another one:

My next book entitled THE REFUGE is already under way. Have you ever seen, or spent any time in a beach hut? In fact, do other countries have beach huts too? I'm really enjoying this one. I'm about half way through, and my mind is buzzing with opportunities for the heroine in this story.I hope you will too.

It's a real ROMANCE this one.

Because I've been in lock-down in our house (along with my husband Jim), once I've done the gardening, the house work and the shopping, I enjoy myself writing, and this one is giving me enormous pleasure. Love Phyllis J Burton’s voice. Gentle, persuasive, almost hypnotic her cadence and tone is pleasing and very convincing. I will definitely read other books by this author.LOOK OUT FOR IT!
