John grew up in the Pacific Northwest, attended Washington State University, then moved to Los Angeles where he worked for Dun & Bradstreet, investigating thousands of California businesses. He next moved to New York City and became a stock broker with a major Wall Street firm. In time, the adverse northeast weather drove him back to Southern California. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department and was variously assigned as a police academy instructor, patrol supervisor and member of Chief Daryl Gates' personal staff. Now retired from the LAPD, he currently owns and operates a respected private investigation agency in the Greater Los Angeles area.
John holds several U.S. patents, is a licensed general building contractor, licensed private investigator, a private pilot, criminal defense investigator for the Los Angeles County Superior Court panel and a member of Mensa.
When not investigating crimes, writing or inventing, John enjoys golf and travel.
John's novels include "Seasoned Greetings" and "The Zookeeper." He has also written "Home & Personal Security," an illustrated guide containing dozens of photos and illustrations of easy no-cost and low-cost methods for protecting people and their property.
