Oscar S. Ramirez,1930, born in Camargo, Mexico of an American mother of Spanish ancestory and a Mexican father of Spanish, Indian and Irish ancestory and was reared in Jarales, New Mexico, the land of his Spanish ancestors. His roots stem back to early Spanish colonists who settled in that area. He served in the military service during the Korean War, later attended universities in California. He earned a Ph.D. in Psychology, cofounded "El Hogar, The Hispanic Institute for Family Development," taught in the university system and retired as a college vice-president.
He and his wife Sue live in El Dorado Hills, California where they enjoy the peace and solitude of the Sierra foothills. His favorite moments are spent with his wife, family, their dog Sadie, reading nonfiction, writing prose and poetry.
His multi-lingual book, "El Camino to Jarales; Purgatorial Confessions with Don Manuel" lays out the culture of the Sanchez who migrated as soldiers-of-the cross to colonize La Nueva Galicia which is now New Mexico. Don Manuel's confessions speak of the hardships, sorrows and joys endured in taming a hostile territory.
