What happens behind the beautiful and the ugly doors? Is it really different?

I'm interested in how people become who they are. How they choose where to live, who to love and what to do. How their choices and reactions affect their next choices and next reactions. How their mistakes and successes and other people's mistakes and success form them. How one thing can change everything. In answering these questions, I explore the lives of the underdog, the outsider, the seeker, the unsettled.

These are the puzzles I write about.

I am a North Carolina native and part-time attorney currently living with my husband and our animals (two pit bull mixes named Piper and Blue and one elderly tabby cat named Skye) in Falmouth, MA. My heart is in the ocean, but I do miss red clay and the smell of tobacco in the summer. I think I published my first piece of fiction in Cricket Magazine when I was twelve or thirteen, but I can't find the clipping to prove it to you.

I've had a lot of different jobs over the years and met some amazing people and learned a lot. Favorites include a stint as a stable lad in a horse racing stables in England, writing legislation for the General Assembly in Georgia and freelance journalist. I am an open water swimmer in my spare time, and I love dogs, especially pit bulls, although they really are no different than any other dog.

Everyone has always told me to be more easy going, to let things roll off my back. But I can't. So I write about them.

Two of my favorite authors are Dick Francis and Jose Saramago. Make that make sense!
