Kitty Leaken

Photographer Kitty Leaken's most recent book is New Mexico Farm Table, about growing, cooking, eating and enjoying great food in New Mexico. She is also exploring the delights of sharing a pot of tea with good company. She previously photographed Cooking with Cafe Pasqual's: Recipes form Santa Fe's Renowned Corner Café, Ten Speed Press/Random House with writer, chef and owner Katharine Kagel and Cooking with Johnny Vee: International Cuisine with a Modern Flair.

Leaken's documentary photography has also found expressive outlet exploring Native American cultural identity in books such as Kevin Red Star: Crow Indian Artist and Contemporary Native American Artists, both with publisher Gibbs Smith.

Previously she was program director for Art Refuge, a Santa Fe-based nonprofit that brings guided arts and play activities to Tibetan refugee children and orphaned girls in Sri Lanka. Leaken's photographs documented the difficult life passages of young Tibetans in a book, The Art of Exile, published by the Museum of New Mexico Press, and a short documentary, Dance of Young Nomads.

Kitty spends her spare time at a straw bale cabin on a small river in the remote mountains of northern New Mexico with husband and writer, Daniel Gibson, a native New Mexican.
