The Tierra del Fuego, Colony Ship series represents for me the sci fi book I would like to read: real and perilous conflict faced with courage, intelligence, and physical strength by characters I would like as my friends. I started reading science fiction in graduate school, when Ursula K. LeGuin and Marion Zimmer Bradley stunned me with the exploration of our social constructs through exploration of another world. Then Octavia Butler cracked open the novel as intense exploration of self, family and relationships through her characters' interaction with less than attractive aliens.

I've been involved with activist groups concerned with the environment, clean water, wildlife conservation and legislation affecting women and minorities. My undergraduate degree is in English and Biology, but I work to stay current in microbiology, astrophysics, and medical breakthroughs. I have a neck held together with a plate, screws and wire, and a heart held in check with an implanted defibrillator. My knees are titanium Improvements on the arthritic challenge I presented to my orthopedic surgeon. Writing grants me an existence outside a flawed physique. It.lets me inhabit a world that can be my future and yours.
