Frederic von Lothringen

Frederic von Lothringen is a researcher in language sciences and an author. Also trained in educational sciences, he is currently conducting, within the LiLPa research unit (UR 1339) at the University of Strasbourg, a study devoted to the regional languages of France, their transmission, their institutional recognition and their place in contemporary society.

His background in specialised education, in community-based education and in the management of institutions and services informs a careful reflection on the links between language, school, culture, institutions and transmission. His experience working with young people has also led him to explore the psychological, educational and social dimensions of individual development, learning and cultural belonging.

His role as president of a non-governmental organisation with access to United Nations bodies places his work within an international perspective, attentive to human rights, cultural rights, education, youth and linguistic diversity.

His literary world is deeply shaped by the regions of France, their histories, their cultures and their languages. His writing blends imagination, territorial memory, educational reflection, the psychology of characters and a questioning of how cultural and linguistic heritage is passed on.
