Larry VanderLeest grew up in the suburbs of Chicago amazed as a boy at the machinery and the men who picked up the garbage and wondering where it all went. During summers between college years, he used his Dutch connections to get a job on a garbage truck, and thus began his adventures portrayed in Garbio.
