Maggie Mendus

Maggie was born in Chicago in 1945, and taught elementary and middle school language arts for 27 years. As an epileptic she has found that writing helps her to process the ravages of the illness and keeps her able to manage her everyday life. She is a poet who discovered that writing is a partner in her healing, particularly following seizure activity. In March of 2011 she published her first book, BROKEN CONSCIOUSNESS: Reflections of an Epileptic, a small collection of verse about dealing with the disorder.
