Maude Spekes

Born to a feminist screenwriter and commune leader who named her children after television milestones, Maude Had an Abortion Spekes is a taxonomist who, in her spare time, distills and independently bottles single-malt scotch for an undisclosed tavern in NYC.

She edited OMGZilla: The Book of Genesis, with illustrations by John Bergdahl; and co-edited Jabberf*cky and other poems with Sybilia Grogan, whom she met at a Margaret Fuller fan club. Most recently Maude edited the Characters Series, a new presentation of a classic genre, character writing.

Her solo works include Single Maude Scotch: Tasting Mash Notes and A Pint of Paltry Blood: Epictetus and the Idea of Other.

Maude teaches workshops on 17th-century poetry, echolocation, indexing, and self-forgiveness.
