Cyrus M. Copeland

First things first: if you're purchasing OFF THE RADAR, go with the hardcover over ebook. The physical book is a work of art with a stunning jacket.

The son of an American father and Iranian mother, Cyrus M. Copeland spent his formative years in Shiraz, Iran. After the 1979 revolution, the Copelands moved to Tehran, beginning the period of personal and political upheaval Cyrus would write about thirty-five years later in OFF THE RADAR. The book is an intensely personal story that brings history down to a human scale, and gives readers a peek into the fascinating, complex, deeply misunderstood country and culture of Iran--threaded through the personal narratives of three people: Max as an American, Shahin as an Iranian, and Cyrus as a bi-cultural child. As an adult, Cyrus embarks on a quest to discover if the charges against his father were true. Had he been a CIA agent all this time, or an unfortunate man in the wrong place and time?

Upon returning stateside in1980, Cyrus attended Haverford College and Villanova University, then went on to get his MBA from Cornell--launching a career on Madison Avenue that would span more than a decade. When his father died, Cyrus delivered Max's eulogy and found it to be a powerful experience. He went on to publish a book of eulogies of our cultural heroes--famous artists, writers, scientists, musicians and visionaries --which led to an improbable incarnation as a speaker on the funeral director circuit, and a new career in the publishing world. From death, new life.

A longtime resident of Manhattan, Copeland enjoys traveling the world and counts Thailand, Nepal, Bali, Europe, and South America as notches on his travel belt. Having chronicled his family's extraordinary experiences during the revolution in OFF THE RADAR, he alternates his time between speaking engagements, travel, and working on his next book.
