Wayne Buckhanan

Wayne Buckhanan is an unashamed geek. He loves technology so much that he built on his Computer Science degree to get a PhD in Electrical Engineering and has taught university courses in all the STEM categories and beyond.

Dr. Buckhanan is an unusual geek because he also loves people. As a social introvert, if you catch him out, it will likely be playing geeky board games, singing karaoke-style to alt-rock and Disney songs, or just laughing uproariously at bad puns (his own and others').

His passions for people and all-things-geeky overlap in the "human technologies" such as Neuro-Linguistics, Neuro-Semantics, and the ChangeWorks model of human interactions. He applies all his areas of expertise and study to improving communication in the highest leverage contexts he knows -- education and business.

Having started his first business in 1997 with a $1,000 loan and a laptop, that company now works with authors, speakers, musicians, and many other entrepreneurs and small business owners to solve their communication needs -- both person to person, via broadcast technologies, and by way of web technologies. He has also been CTO for several Midwest start-ups and started his own SaaS business.

His teaching experience spans back farther than his business experience. Having discovered a talent for helping other people learn as a peer tutor in high school, Wayne has continued to develop his teaching approach as tutor, teacher, professor, and trainer. He has started an experimental high-school from scratch, has given an invited TEDx talk on the future of education, and especially enjoys working with self-motivated and driven learners such as entrepreneurs and small business owners.

In all his "spare time," Wayne continues to study human interactions, computing technology, and the developing arena of "hobby engineering." When not teaching and learning topics such as the 4MAT instructional development model or the TRIZ creative problem solving methods, he is designing the next "toy" to be produced via 3D printer, CNC mill, or web app.

You can connect with him on most social media platforms or on his blog at Mercs.net.
