Jennifer Flower

Jennifer Flower is a recovering psychologist and psychoanalyst. Soon after the attacks of September 11, 2001, she finally realized that life is short and decided to close her office in New York City and get on the road with no destination in mind.

Up until that shining moment, she had spent 20 years working with patients in one way or another, writing in secret, and trying to quell her entrepreneurial and artistic inclinations. So by the time September 11th rolled around, it was just a matter of getting off her rear end and turning her life upside down.

After a somewhat less than exemplary road trip in an old Airstream motor home - remarked in her book of instructional cautionary tales, How NOT to RV - she found herself in Mendocino CA, where she met the man who would soon be her husband, Joe Flower. This was a very good thing and so is he.

Since that time they have been collaborating on The Change Project, part of a growing movement to make healthcare better, sooner, and cheaper for everyone. Although this takes 25 hours a day, they still find time to swab the decks on their outrageously heavy converted military tugboat where they welcome friends, people interested in change, and anyone with a paintbrush or a tool kit who knows about naval vessels.

Finding, over her many years of helping people almost as fallible as herself, that fear is the single biggest obstacle to anything good in life, Dr. Flower created the How NOT to Guides - "Conquering Fear One Failure at a Time" - of which How NOT to RV is the first.

Just think: There is no shortage of opportunities to fail in life and there is an equal number (minus one) of opportunities to try again. If you have a How-NOT-To story in you, contact Dr. Flower at jennifer@HowNotToGuides.com.
