Early in my sales leadership career, I realised that happy salespeople with a growth mindset always keep growing, evolving and succeeding.
Since that time, it’s been my mission to create a happy, healthy, sales growth mindset in people and cultures.
It’s the most effective way to build a successful self-sustaining and self-charging culture that delivers high performance.
Sales has been a truly fulfilling and satisfying career since I accidentally landed in it in the mid 80’s.
Sadly, it has become a high-pressure, high-expectation, numbers-driven and sometimes toxic environment.
People are measured by numbers and these stats don’t create any understanding of each human being.
In addition, sales leaders don’t get the training they need to support the development of their team. The pressure is always on.
Very few are actually doing their job successfully. They're in a trance of busyness but not always focused on doing the right things.
Sales which was fun and exciting has become a cruel and demanding sector to work in.
It doesn't have to be this way.
With love, compassion and humanity…sales creates the most wonderful and fertile ground to grow human beings that achieve unbelievable and outstanding things.
This takes a high degree of leadership skill but is very doable.
Sadly, 71% of sales leaders don’t receive any leadership training. Why?
Because they’re expected to know how to lead and develop despite that task needing a completely different set of skills, so sales leaders are attempting to do their best but without development they are failing and desperate.
The consequence is that salespeople don’t get the support they need to grow.
Some forward-thinking organisations understand this and are developing leaders to be compassionate, to deliver tough love, and challenge their people out of their comfort zone in small easy steps so they can grow and succeed at the pace that’s right for them.
Creating a learning and growth culture…has a prolific impact because it actually makes everybody feel like a winner. Small daily improvements create magic over time.
Ironically learning cultures outperform high-performance cultures…significantly.
It is also the way out of this toxic mess and leads to a better path.
A path filled with Sales Leaders who are warriors of the human spirit.
So in conclusion, compassionate, caring developmental leaders can and do change the lives of the people in their team…and create higher levels of success.
Making sales a better place for all.
