Andrew Shea

I stay active in three of the things I love: designing, writing, and teaching.

I'm the founder and creative director at MANY Design, a studio that designs strategies and artifacts that support progressive social agendas, sustainable economic endeavors, and the environment. The studio's work has been featured by Fast Company, Slate, Print, How, 99% Invisible, and Communication Arts, among others.

My first book, "Designing for Social Change: Strategies for Community-Based Graphic Design," was published by Princeton Architectural Press and provides graphic designers with strategies to guide them during community-based projects. I was also an editor of "LEAP Dialogues: Career Pathways in Design for Social Innovation," which featured over 80 contributors and of "LEAP Dialogues: The Educator's Guide." My design writing has also appeared in Core77, AIGA, Entrepreneur Magazine, GOOD, and Design Observer, who included one of my essays in their 15-year respective book, "Culture Is Not Always Popular: Fifteen Years of Design Observer."

I am Assistant Professor and Acting Director of Integrated Design at Parsons School of Design.

I regularly speak about design at schools, conferences, and events like TEDx Transmedia in Rome. I have served as an advisor for various organizations and on juries for competitions organized by AIGA, Worldstudio, Design Ignites Change, Archinect, the Center for Urban Pedagogy, and Sappi, who has awarded three of my projects Ideas That Matter grants.
