Angela Shelton
Author, Actor, Orator
Angela Shelton is an award-winning filmmaker, whose semi-autobiographical movie "Tumbleweeds" received recognition at the Sundance Film Festival (2000), earning the lead actress Janet McTeer an Academy Award® nomination and a Golden Globe® win.
Following "Tumbleweeds," Angela brought to life Kaye Gibbons's novel "Charms for the Easy Life," starring Gena Rowlands.
In 2004, Angela made her directorial debut with "Searching for Angela Shelton," a documentary aimed at surveying women across the U.S. who were also named Angela Shelton. However, she soon discovered that many of the women she interviewed with the same name had, like Angela, experienced difficult situations. The film received numerous accolades and initiated a grassroots movement of survivors and humanitarian organizations worldwide dedicated to addressing important issues.
Her memoir, "Finding Angela Shelton," was published in 2006, chronicling how her journey across America while making the documentary transformed her life.
Following the documentary's release, Angela became a public speaker on the subject of trauma, recovery, and surviving difficult experiences. She is known for her unique stage presence, using humor, surprise, and stories that leave lasting impressions on survivors and others.
On screen, Angela has appeared in several productions, including "9 Line" (2014), "Comfortably Numb" (1995), "The Shrink Is In" (2001), "The Big Time" (2002), and TV roles in shows such as Pacific Blue, Chicago Hope, and Becker.
Angela's next feature, "THE HAMMER" (originally "Heart, Baby!"), which she wrote, produced, and directed, tells the remarkable true story of Tennessee prisoner George Lee Martin, who was offered freedom to fight in the 1984 Olympics but declined. The movie reveals the reason why.
Continuing her dedication, Angela enlisted many of the same cast and crew to create the comedy "Eagle and the Albatross," starring KPOP sensation Amber Liu and Dan Lauria from "The Wonder Years." Angela takes on the role of the character herself.
Angela offers guidance to others in her community on how to write their books.
Always aiming to inspire with humor, love, and teachings, Angela has released her first book in a new genre. She will also be sharing a quirky novel, a sex guide for young men, and a book about her transformation from an insecure abuse survivor to a more confident individual.
