Eric F. Mason

Eric F. Mason is the pastor of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and an adjunct professor of religious studies at Saint Xavier University, Chicago. Ordained in the American Baptist Churches USA, previously he served an ABC-related university as professor of biblical studies for almost twenty-five years, much of that time also as department chair and holder of a research chair. He received his Ph.D. in Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity at the University of Notre Dame, and he also has degrees from Beeson Divinity School, Samford University (M.Div.) and Union University (B.A.). His research interests include the Epistle to the Hebrews, 1–2 Peter and Jude, and literature of Second Temple period Judaism such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, and he is the author or editor of ten books and numerous articles. He is a member of the New Testament translation revision committee for the forthcoming Catholic American Bible (revision of the New American Bible) and is president of Theta Alpha Kappa, the national honor society for religious studies and theology. Previously he served as president of the Chicago Society of Biblical Research (2014–2015), editor of CSBR's journal Biblical Research (2016–2024 issues), co-chair of the Hebrews program units for the Society of Biblical Literature (North America annual meeting, 2020–2025; international meeting, 2011–2016), and regional coordinator of the Midwest Region Society of Biblical Literature (2013–2018).
