That's an old photo when I still had hair, but it coincides with the writing of The Promise of an Errant Highway. Back in the seventies I had finished my last Thomas Hardy book, and you know how disappointing and devastasting that is, but I had a short story called 'friends' that I thought I could craft into a modern day homage to Hardy. So, I flipped to a female protagonist, gave her an overblown love affair (this is the south) and let it dissolve into tragedy. Well, I don't have the writing skills of Hardy, who does? But I think I captured the essence of most of his novels. So this is my tribute to a great serial writer. I have been writing for centuries it seems like, but this is first actual novel.
