Richard Jaffa

Although I have been a lawyer for over 40 years I actually started my working life as a journalist. I worked on the Evening Sentinel in Stoke-on-Trent and the Sheffield Telegraph. After that I worked as a reporter on the Daily Mail. I was inspired by my aunt, the feature writer Olga Franklin. For over 30 years she wrote virtually every week of life to my mother in Birmingham describing life in London both before the Second World War and during the Blitz. She continued these letters after she made her name in Fleet Street and the letters are frank and uninhibited. They are an amazing collection of letters and feature Kings and Queens, world leaders, film stars and often stories that were too hot for the newspapers. To edit them was very exciting and I know that everyone will enjoy reading them.
