Austin Gary

Austin Gary is the nom de plume for Gary Austin Heyde (born March 7, 1947, in St. Joseph, Missouri). He is the author of the novels, Miss Madeira & The Queerling, and the plays “Miss Madeira” & “Genius”. He is a BMI award-winning songwriter—having written nearly 600 songs (with recordings by Tammy Wynette, Jeff Carson, John Berry and others) and over 200 jingles for radio and TV. He has written the lyrics and music to three musicals performed at colleges and universities. He has been an actor, director of numerous plays and musicals, a newspaper editor, an advertising copywriter and creative director, owner of an ad agency and music production company, gourmet vegetarian cook, an intuitive numerologist and a noted teacher and storyteller. He made it through the 5th round of the 1998 U.S. Senior Open (9 Ball Pocket Billiards) Tournament—and (intentional brag) beat 12-time World Trick Shot Artist, Mike Massey, the defending Senior 9-Ball Champion. He is the proud of father of multi-talented stage director and choreographer, Rachel Rockwell, and Jeremy Spencer, award-winning drummer for the popular metal band, Five Finger Death Punch, and Papaw to Jake Austin Helm, 3rd generation actor and first generation inventor.

He currently lives in Las Vegas, NV.
