Robert John Parkes

Robert John Parkes, PhD is a Professor in the School of Education at The University of Newcastle, Australia, and a leading voice in history education. He’s the founding editor of the academic journal "Historical Encounters", co-convener of the HERMES History Education Research Network, and currently Interim Dean of Education.

Robert is also a lifelong martial artist. He’s the first ever Agálon (Master) of the Bernas Estocadas Filipino Martial Arts system, a Graduado in Capoeira, and Director of the Eskrima Academy. Working closely with Grandmaster William Bernas, he’s on a mission to help preserve Negrosanon martial traditions, through the Eskrima Media project, as living cultural heritage.
