Michael Hurley

Michael Hurley lives in Melbourne, Australia, with his IKEA china cabinet and a good heater. His earlier publications include, with Jan Hutchinson, Two Timing. Sex, writing and the writing of sex (1991), and as sole author A Guide to Gay and Lesbian Writing in Australia (1996) and Then and Now. Gay men and HIV (2003). He co-judged OutRage magazine's Annual National Short Story Competition in 1996 and 1995 and was twice included in OutRages's top 100 most influential Australian gays.

Michael taught in textual and cultural studies at the University of Technology, Sydney, 1985-1998. He was Writer in the Community at the AIDS Council of New South Wales 1995, Researcher in Residence at the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations 1999-2000 and a member of the International Gay Men's Health Think Tank 2000-2001. From 2001-2010 he was a researcher at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University, Melbourne. He has also authored and co-authored many book chapters, research monographs and journal articles.
