I have had a lifelong passion for history, the whole messy but oh-so-tasty Dagwood sandwich of history with its varied components: literature, the visual arts, science, music, food, economics, governmental systems, language, athletics, manners and morals, religion, and more. Periods of rapid and radical transition in history--such as the one Demokedes witnessed--have been of particular interest to me. The greatest inspiration and influence for my writing historical fiction remains Mary Renault. The title I, Demokedes, though, is obviously inspired by Robert Graves’ masterpiece, I, Claudius. I am currently trying to find an agent for a more sprawling yet more intimate historical novel--an immersion in the last Olympiad (AD 393-397).
