R. E. Frederick is a journalist, artist, vocalist and producer with a background in mathematics, philosophy, art and voice. As a journalist, Frederick specializes in physical sciences and economics, but will follow a good story wherever it leads. Frederick is also an accomplished interviewer, having worked as Science magazine's first weekly podcast host, as St. Louis Public Radio's first science journalist, and as freelance reporter for a variety of clients in print, radio, video and online. He currently lives in western North Carolina, where he also sings professionally, is the digital managing editor of American Scientist magazine, cartoons, and occasionally writes children's books. The art Frederick draws for his children's books is styled after children's drawing themselves, representing his understanding that children like to see drawings that they themselves think they could make, an understanding Frederick came to after teaching his first art classes to elementary-school students over two decades ago.
