Robert J.E. Simpson

Robert JE Simpson is a Northern Irish polymath. A freelance writer, broadcaster, publisher, actor, visual artist and cultural historian from Belfast, now living on the north coast of Ireland.

Formerly the official archivist for Hammer Films, he was founding editor of Diabolique magazine.

He has contributed to books, magazines, Blu-Rays, documentaries and festivals. He is a regular contributor to BBC Radio Ulster on pop cultural matters, and is director and host of CinePunked - a Belfast-based collective that specialises in live events and podcasts relating to film.

He is particularly interested in issues around mental health, and has exhibited his photography and art. His first book was a monograph on cult British horror film The Wicker Man, his second a collection of writing on Hammer Films. He is finishing a book on Hammer's sister company Exclusive Films for publication in 2026, and is writing a monograph inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, and his first volume of fiction.
