Sumita Singha (previous name Sinha) is an architect, author and academic who has carried out a diverse portfolio of projects in the UK and abroad. She has taught architecture and technical design for 20 years. Sumita received the UIA:UNESCO International award for housing design and Atkins Inspire award for Inspirational leadership. Sumita set up Architects For Change, the equality forum at the Royal Institute of British Architects, and has been past Chair of Women in Architecture. At present, she sits on the RIBA professional standards committee. She was elected to the RIBA Council 2011-14 and has been a member of several RIBA committees and working groups.
Sumita is a Non-Executive Director of Moorfields NHS Foundation Trust. She is a NED member of the Sustainable Development Unit at Public Health England.
Sumita set up an environmental design charity, Charushila, which has carried out projects internationally.
Sumita also works as a commissioned artist- a ceramic mural designed by her for a school was inaugurated by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II- and she has exhibited her art and photography.
Sumita's publications include, 'Architecture For Rapid Change and Scarce Resources' (Routledge 2012) and 'Autotelic Architect' (Routledge 2016) and she is currently working on a four volume book about Women In Architecture.
