George M. Strain (1949- ) was born in Boulder, CO, and grew up in Illinois. He trained in electrical engineering (U Illinois, BS, 1971), biomedical engineering (Iowa State U, MS 1973, PhD 1977), physiology (Iowa State U, PhD 1977), and neurology (UCLA Brain Research Institute, Postdoc 1976-78). Since 1978 he has been on the faculty of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge, where he is professor of neuroscience. He has done extensive research in various areas of animal neurology, with the greatest focus on deafness in dogs and cats, for which his work is best known.
