Lois Amsel Jarman

Lois Amsel Jarman is the author of the Gisela, Adele, Isabelle, and Gevrehan series and the creator of Medieval Maidens. Her books have been awarded educational/historical Book of the Year and as well as the Preferred Choice Award by Creative Child Magazine. She also developed a reading curriculum for the books, which is used in after school reading programs and Girl Scout Groups.

She fell in love with history in college while shopping at auctions with her family. Her favorite part was learning about the time period her purchases came from and imagining what the original owners' lives must have been like. Lois saw first hand the impact history had on young children when her daughter became interested in American Girl's (R) historical characters. She hopes that Medieval Maidens will generate the same excitement and interest in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Lois holds a Master's in Humanities with a concentration in Medieval Studies and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Second Language Acquisition. A mother of two, she spent much time reading with her children as they were growing up. Lois hopes to afford other parents that opportunity with their own children through Medieval Maidens. Lois lives in Maryland with a menagerie of pets and teaches for a regional graduate school in organizational leadership.
