Donald J. Smith

I am a native New Yorker, born in the Bronx and raised on Long Island. After my junior year at Uniondale H.S., my family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where I graduated from Kalani H.S. in 1965. I went to San Jose State for college, spending a year abroad in Uppsala, Sweden. After graduating with a degree in economics, I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Peru working with credit cooperatives. That led to an MBA at UC Berkeley, followed by a Ph.D. My dissertation was on an economic theory of credit union decision-making. Then I came to Boston University where I teach mostly Fixed Income Markets and Analysis. I'm still there and hope to continue for a long time to come. I love to teach and write. Bond Math is my first sole-authored book, and I'm very proud of it. It's exactly the book that I wanted to write. Now I'm working on a manuscript about the financial crisis.
