BRIAN NICHOLSON

Excitement started at an early age for the author; returning from India with his parents and sister in June 1945, aged 3, the ship in which the family was embarked was chased by a Japanese submarine. Brian Nicholson had an equally exciting career in the army for 35 years of which the last 10 were spent working with the Secret Intelligence Service in various overseas appointments in Hong Kong, Ghana and Indonesia. He was made an OBE in 1985 for his outstanding performance as a Commanding Officer and received a Commendation from the Commander British Forces Hong Kong in 1987 for his contribution to the success of the negotiations with the Chinese Government on the handover of Hong Kong. In 1990, as Military Advisor to Jerry Rawlings, Ghana’s President, he was directed to plan the successful West African military intervention in Liberia after the horrific torture and assassination of the country’s despotic dictator, Master Sergeant Samuel Doe. In 1993 at the request of the Royal Navy Funeral Department, while he was Defence Attaché in Jakarta, he solved the mystery of what happened to Sub-Lieutenant Gregor Riggs, the last of the 23 Commandoes on the ill-fated Australian Commando raid, ‘Operation Rimau’, on Japanese shipping in Singapore Harbour in World War 2. The author discovered the remains of the young officer on Merapas Island in the Indonesian Archipelago and returned them to the family for burial with full military honours at the Changi Military Cemetery in Singapore. These are but a few of the exciting experiences in a colourful career which has formed the backdrop to the books which he has written. He is currently researching his latest book! Brian Nicholson is married with two adult daughters and lives in Richmond where his time is taken up with writing, golf, shooting, sailing, travel and cherishing his classic British sports car.
