Leslie Miklosy

Leslie Miklosy was born in Argentina of Hungarian parents. He spent his first ten years in South America and then moved with his family to the United States. He learned English as his third language.

Leslie has worked as a publications assistant at a major philanthropy, as office administrator of a psychotherapy and training institute, manager of a spiritually-oriented bookstore, desk clerk at luxury hotels, census worker, and elementary school substitute teacher.

His interests in storytelling, mythology, psychotherapy, and comedy combine to make his writing quirky, whimsical, and humorous. About his first book, WHICH IS MORE ROUND, THE WORLD OR YOUR TUMMY? (2005), NC Poet Laureate Fred Chappell wrote: "There is so much wisdom here that I feel I could pick this little book up time and time again and always find a new pathway to a thought."

His second book -- MY THOUGHTS PREFER SIDE STREETS (2011) -- continues his unique exploration of various aspects of the life journey. Timea K. Szell, senior lecturer in English and director of creative writing, Barnard College, New York, says: "Leslie Miklosy has done it again: enter another collection of aphoristic sayings and gems of miniature essays. Generous and smart, the essays all address some specific but perennially relevant philosophical or existential issue. The short aphorisms are crystallized versions of the essays: tiny shards that glimmer memorably."

Leslie's third book, THINKERER: A THINKER WHO TINKERS WITH WORDS AND IDEAS (2015), is composed of over 150 new short reflections, and a few essays -- in the same vein as his first two books. Tom McCutchen, MD, author of EMBRACING STRESS IN YOUR LIFE, offers this comment: "Insightful, wise, humorous, thought provoking ... be prepared to aha, chuckle, nod your head in agreement! This is quite unique and very enjoyable ... kind of like watching colorful butterflies on a beautiful sunny afternoon!"

All three books are available in both paperback and kindle editions.

A fourth collection of whimsical and serious short reflections and essays about life is titled, IN THE WIGGLE ROOM: FINDING SPACE WITHIN LIFE'S CONSTRAINTS (2017). Larry Brooks, novelist, writing workshops leader, author of STORY ENGINEERING: MASTERING THE 6 CORE COMPETENCIES OF SUCCESSFUL WRITING, has stated: "Life's wisdom arrives with many voices, and is often as personal as it is universal. Such a chorus is Leslie Miklosy's IN THE WIGGLE ROOM ... At times wry, other times raw and unflinching, the read is always as rewarding as it is illuminating."

His latest book, OUT OF MY MIND: QUOTATIONS THAT DELIGHT, DAZZLE, AND CONFOUND (2020), was recently published. It is a compilation of 195 of the best of his quotations -- and some favorite short essays and drawings -- from his four previous books, plus some new material. It is available in both paperback and kindle editions. Rubin Battino, professor, mental health counselor, and author of plays, poetry and books, including METAPHORIA and HEALING LANGUAGE, says: “Condensing thoughts, images and wisdom into a few lines is an art which Miklosy has mastered. Read these wonderful aphorisms, and be both inspired and amazed!”

Leslie is retired and lives in North Carolina.
