Dinah Lee Küng

After twenty years of reporting from Asia, (primarily China) including for The Economist, Business Week, The International Herald Tribune and National Public Radio, the award-winning Küng has published numerous novels as well as a human rights play staged by the Geneva English Drama Society.

"A VISIT FROM VOLTAIRE" was nominated for the ORANGE PRIZE FOR FICTION/WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR WOMEN'S FICTION in 2004. This is a quirky autobiographical comedy in which the phantom of Voltaire haunts her farmhouse as she tries to settle into life in Switzerland.

In her comic novel, "LOVE AND THE ART OF WAR" (2012) a beleaguered London librarian goes to evening class to save her marriage but ends up by mistake in a class learning Sun Tzu and the thirty-six stratagems for warfare. Can the wiles of ancient Chinese warlords help Jane keep her family and career together?

Her Geneva novel "UNDER THEIR SKIN" is a sophisticated love triangle story using the metaphor of surfaces, reflections, skin and scars, to examine what lies hidden beneath social behaviour.

Under the pen name D. L. Kung, her trilogy of "THE HANDOVER MYSTERIES" was re-issued in e-book and paperback editions. They were voted as three of the "Top Ten Mysteries, Thrillers and Suspense of 2011" list by Goodreads members in 2012 and recently praised as groundbreaking for the genre in Jeffrey Kinkley's CHINA MYSTERIES: CRIME NOVELS FROM CHINA'S OTHERS, (University of Hawaii Press, 2023)
