Shafik Meghji

Shafik Meghji is an award-winning journalist, travel writer and author. His latest book, Small Earthquakes: A Journey Through Lost British History in South America, was published in July 2025 and named Travel Narrative Book of the Year at the British Guild of Travel Writers Awards.

Published in 2022, Shafik's debut, Crossed Off the Map: Travels in Bolivia, was shortlisted for the Edward Stanford Travel Book of the Year, the BGTW Travel Narrative Book of the Year and the Great Outdoors Book of the Year. The Washington Post and Smithsonian Magazine also named it as one of their travel books of 2022.

Based in South London, Shafik has worked on all seven continents but specialises in Latin America and South Asia. He has co-authored more than 45 guidebooks for Lonely Planet, Rough Guides and DK Eyewitness, and writes for publications such as BBC Travel, Wanderlust, National Geographic Traveller and Geographical.
