Dr. Kira Baker-Doyle was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She received her BA, M.Ed and Ph.D in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. After teaching in the Philadelphia Public Schools, she went on to graduate school to research teachers' social networks, professional development, and urban education. Alongside her research work she helped her husband, John Doyle, start a chocolate company, John and Kira's, which is now known nationally as a premier artisanal, socially responsible food company. Today, she is a faculty member at Arcadia University's School of Education, teaching education courses on literacies and technologies and researching teacher collaboration and networking. She runs workshops and talks for educators and administrators about teacher education. Outside of academia and business, she is active in working with social justice organizations that support public education, and she enjoys running the occasional 5k to work off all the chocolate taste-testing.
