Richard D. Margerum

Dr. Richard D. Margerum is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management at the University of Oregon. His area of research focuses on collaborative approaches to planning and public policy. He has published more than 20 articles on collaboration in natural resources and urban and regional planning. He is also the author of Beyond Consensus: Improving Collaboration to Solve Complex Public Problems, MIT Press (September 2011).

Prior to arriving at Oregon, Richard worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and was a Fulbright Postdoctoral fellow in Australia. He held a faculty appointment at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia and was a Visiting Scientist with the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

Richard holds a Ph.D. in planning from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, where his dissertation examined collaborative approaches to environmental management. He also holds a masters degree in Water Resources Management from Wisconsin and a masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Cincinnati.
