Born and raised in BC. I have lived on the land of the First Nations people and wanted to learn more about their culture. Their stories, their way of life and their traditions, I am sad to say, are disappearing rapidly. I wanted people to know how amazing the First Nations peoples are in a humorous and uplifting way. Many good news stories are coming out of many bands but so much more needs to be done. I hope that Because of the Moon will shed some light on what we have to lose if we don't protect and preserve our heritage.
My parents are Irish immigrants and worked hard to provide a good life for their four children. I am grateful to them for the sacrifices they made, moving away from their family.
Having three cultures; Canadian, Irish and First Nations to draw upon has made me a better writer with unique perspectives bound together by tradition and family. Attending the UBC writing centre has helped me organize my thoughts and polish my prose.
