Taylor Lyen

Taylor Samuel Lyen was born in Oakland, California He grew up in a mortuary where his father taught him anatomy, embalming science, and freemasonry. After attending Saint Elizabeth High School and Oakland Technical High School, he attended Oakland Junior College and transfered to San Francisco State University, where he earned a BA in Education. He has earned master degrees in school curriculum/supervision and legal studies and holds a Doctor of Education degree from University of San Francisco.

Taylor was a teacher, principal and Deputy Superintendent of Schools in the Castro Valley Unified School District and retired after forty years of service. In retirement, he has served as an adjunct professor of Education at Simpson University (a conservative protestant university), guest lectured at Saint Mary's University (a Catholic university) and California State University at Hayward (a secular university). A life-long learner, he attends classes at the San Francisco State University Sierra Nevada Field Campus; volunteers as a grant writer for the Sacramento Child Advocates and the Jenny Lin Foundation; and, advocates for community causes.

Currently, he lives in San Francisco and Gold River, California, where he can be with his children and grandchildren. He has written mystery books and books on child growth and development, religion, and recovery. A former science teacher and educator Dr. Lyen has returned to his roots, writing science-based Juvenile Fiction for young adults, ages 8 through 14.
