Michael Kopiec

Michael Kopiec was born in Munich, Germany in 1946, the son of Holocaust survivors Misha and Liza Kopiec. He emigrated to the United States at age four and went on to become a board-certified OB/GYN, practicing medicine for nearly two decades until a drunk-driving accident ended his surgical career.

Turning to a lifetime of notes from private conversations with his father, Michael spent three years cross-referencing them against historical records and Misha's testimony archived at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The result, exceeding one thousand pages, became two books that together tell the full arc of Misha's WWII journey. The Outrage: A Testament of War, Survival, and Moral Courage recounts his firsthand combat experience as an officer in both the Polish and Soviet armies, two escapes from Nazi POW camps, and a 1,000-kilometer trek through Nazi-held territory to reach his family before the genocide could. An Impossible Promise: A Love Story, forthcoming from Amsterdam Publishers, is his Holocaust testimony.

Written to honor his parents and preserve their testimony, these books also answer today's rising tide of Holocaust denial and distortion with documented, verified truth.

Michael lives in San Diego, California, with his wife Margie. They have four children and six grandchildren.
