Karen Frances McCarthy

Karen Frances McCarthy, PhD, is a published author and public speaker. Formerly a political journalist and war correspondent, her first book, The Other Irish (Sterling, New York, 2011), was supported by Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs as part of the country's cross-border reconciliation and anti-sectarianism fund. Following the profound loss of her partner, she turned her focus to consciousness and spirituality.

Her memoir, Till Death Don't Us Part (White Crow Books, 2020), recounts her journey from skepticism to spirituality following personal tragedy. Her academic monograph, The Re-enchanted Ghost in Contemporary American Fiction (Routledge, 2026), grew out of her doctoral research at the University of Birmingham, part of the renowned Russell Group of research universities. Her next book, Still Here (White Crow Books), is forthcoming in 2027.

Karen lectures in spectral literature, mythology, and Spiritualism. She divides her time between Dublin and New York.
