Deborah L. Cabaniss

Deborah L. Cabaniss, M.D. is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Associate Director of Residency Training, and Director of Psychotherapy Training in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia. She is also a Training and Supervising analyst at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. She is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching from Columbia University and the Edith Sabshin award from the American Psychoanalytic Association. Dr Cabaniss has published numerous articles related to psychoanalytic and psychiatric education and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association and Lancet Psychiatry. "Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: A Clinical Manual" has been translated into Mandarin, Korean, French and Farsi. Her book, "Different Patients, Different Therapies," written with co-author Yael Holoshitz, is available from Norton. Her latest book, "Psychodynamic Formulation: An Expanded Approach," written collaboratively with the 11 person Psychodynamic Formulation Collective, seeks to incorporate ideas about the impact of society and culture on development into the psychodynamic formulation. She lectures and teaches around the country and abroad (Norway, Sweden, Canada, Japan, Korea) and lives and practices in Manhattan.
