Richard J. King

Author and illustrator Richard J. King wrote most recently Sailing Alone: A History, which won the National Outdoor Book Award's silver medal for literature. King also wrote Ahab's Rolling Sea: A Natural History of Moby-Dick, lauded in Science, Nature, and American Scholar; Lobster" which was acclaimed by the New York Times; and The Devil's Cormorant: A Natural History, rated as one of the top five science books of the year by Library Journal. His book Ocean Bestiary is a compilation of over twenty years of his column for kids in Sea History magazine. King has decades of experience at sea, mostly as a visiting professor with the Sea Education Association in Woods Hole, MA and more recently teaching boating at UC Santa Cruz and working on a fishing-whale watch boat on Monterey Bay, CA.
