Alexander David King

I am a Ph.D. anthropologist with over 25 years of experience working with indigenous people in Siberia. I have lived with families and worked with teachers, artists, and hunters to learn their daily lives, the role of traditions in the modern world, and Koryak language and storytelling.

My thinking is heavily influenced by my teachers, Richard Handler and Dell Hymes, as well as my friends in Kamchatka, especially Valentina Dedyk, Andrei Kosygin, and others.

My most recent trip to Kamchatka was summer 2018, following a summer trip 3 years earlier and a 9-month research trip documenting the Koryak language and living in Kamchatka with my family in 2013. I have spent over 38 months living in Kamchatka with Koryaks and other indigenous people over the course of 4 different expeditions. I have taught at Chico State in California, University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania.
