Jeff Crane is the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Saint Martin's University in Lacey, Washington. He trained as a historian at Washington State University and did his undergraduate work at The Evergreen State College. His most recent book, The Environment in American History, was published by Routledge Press in December, 2014. It is an in-depth study of American environmental history that begins with Native American land and resource use and ends with a discussion of Climate Change. While designed as a textbook, the narrative is written with a broader audience in mind. His 2011 book, Finding the River: An Environmental History of the Elwha, was published by Oregon State University Press and was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. Crane edited Natural Protest: Essays on the History of American Environmentalism with Michael Egan in 2008.
