Sam Morton

A Rock Hill, SC native and graduate of The Citadel, Sam Morton holds bachelors and masters degrees in English, and has published three novels: Disavowed, Echelon Press, 2006; Betrayed, Quake Publishing, 2010; and Ten Weeks Til…, Quake Publishing 2011. He is co-author of six anthologies, including the best-selling compendium, State of the Heart: South Carolina Writers on the Places They Love (University of South Carolina Press, 2013).

He has been an invited speaker at the South Carolina Book Festival, RoundCon 2011 and a Literary Panel with Pat Conroy, sponsored by the University of South Carolina Hollings Library. He has held signings at Chicago’s Printer’s Row Litfest, the LA Times Book Festival, the Southern Festival of Books, the South Carolina Book Festival, and the Decatur Book Festival.

His past occupations include a 12 year-stint as a robbery/ homicide detective for the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in Columbia, SC, a ten-year career as a professional wrestler, and one long week as the blade changer on the potato cutting machine at the Frito Lay plant in Charlotte, NC.

He is a freelance writer for a host of national and regional periodicals, and has published pieces in peer-reviewed online journals such as The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, Like the Dew, and Writers Who Kill. He resides in Columbia with his wife and two children.
