Claude Lambert

Born in Belgium, Claude Lambert — who also published as Claude Mertens — has lived three distinct lives.

The first (1940–1971) was devoted to faith and justice, working as a Pastor and Civil Rights activist, including as the director of the Belgian League for Human Rights. The second took her to France (1971–1998), where she earned a Ph.D. and built a career as a scientist, studying the influence of Saharan dust on climate using neutron activation techniques, co-editing a book on coastal analytics with Candace Oviatt, and publishing numerous articles in scientific journals. Her third life brought her to the United States, where she retired and reunited with her American children.

Writing in both French and English, she authored novels, short stories for children, and a political work illustrated by Virginia Leirens, a companion of Marc Chagall. Her fictional autobiography, Listen If It Rains, is the thread that connects all three lives.
