Richard Morgan

Richard grew up in Newburgh, New York, a small city 60 miles north of Manhattan. He wrote poetry, plays and short stories encouraged by his 10th grade English teacher. She was young and pretty and he had a crush on her. At SUNY-Albany, Richard was the lone physics major in his creative writing class. The professor was not gentle like his high school muse, but the criticism was accurate and necessary. Richard wrote a weekly column for the college newspaper. His writing followed the imaginative wanderings of his mind. He was fired after one semester.

After more than 40 years in education, Richard retired to New Jersey's Long Beach Island where he lived with his wife, Pat, a watercolor artist and teacher. Her love of watercolor and his of words weave together in his books of poetry.

Richard was a member of the LBI Writers Group where he received both criticism and encouragement from fellow writers. There he could not get fired. He then saw the need for a poet's group. He started The Poets Studio - LBI which continued beyond his tenure on LBI. (Later he started the Poets Studio - NC.)

Richard and Pat moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina in 2018. They traded the blue Atlantic for the Blue Ridge Mountains. In western NC they have found poets and artists in abundance.
